Swindon Pickleball: Club History
The Club was founded in May 2023 by Bryan Saunders, who discovered Pickleball on his frequent visits to the US. Over a few years, his love of the sport grew, his competitiveness intensified resulting in him win gold medals in the US Open and English Open tournaments in 2023.
Bryan decided to launch Pickleball in his home town and formed Swindon Pickleball Club. He promoted Pickleball on social media, shared details of the club across multiple contacts and communities across Swindon. He also registered the club with the official Pickleball body, Pickleball England.
Arrangements were made to hold free taster sessions, to encourage new players to try the sport for the first time. The response was amazing, nobody who joined these sessions had ever played Pickleball previously, yet, within a few months, the club had developed a nucleus of players who were eager to play regularly.
Two local sports venues agreed to host this new sport and within 6 weeks of formation, the club were playing 4 times per week.
After 6 months of the launch, Swindon Pickleball Club have more than 100 players who are part of the community and we continue to attract new players each week.
Newcomers can be sure of a warm welcome, an initial induction by a Coach or Club Ambassador, introductions and games with other club members and immediately feel part of the community.
This is just the start of Swindon Pickleball Club: the future is even more exciting as we strive to keep up with demand and provide opportunities for everyone to learn a new sport, get lots of exercise and the chance to make great friendships on and off the court.
